It’s a rare and wonderful thing to have the time and money to treat yourself to a really good massage so when you do, you will want to reap the benefits as much as possible. Here are some useful tips on how to make the most of your massage.
Arrive Early
Don’t leave it until the last minute to arrive for your massage appointment. Arrive 20-minutes before you are due to give yourself appropriate time to cool down, have a glass of water and undress/change into something more comfortable. If you arrive after a big rush your body will be overheated, your skin will be sweaty and your heart rate will be too fast to fully relax and enjoy the experience.
During your massage
While the massage is taking place, try to stay ‘in the moment’. Don’t let your mind wander to the stresses of work, money, or anything else in your day. Leave your worries at the door and use this time to really enjoy the physical and mental rest. Our therapists will do our best to make the atmosphere in the room as calming as possible but you need to clear your mind as soon as you enter. You’ll feel the positive effects a lot better if you’re immersed in the massage.
Drink Water
Straight after your massage, our therapists will encourage you to sit up slowly – to avoid a dizzy spell – and offer you a glass of cool refreshing water. This is not because we think you look thirsty! During a massage a lot of toxins have been released and sipping some cool water assists your body to flush them out, making sure you feel the full benefit of the massage. You should continue to drink water for the rest of the day, like every day, to ensure your skin is refreshed and your organs are working well.
Rest after
After your massage, you are advised to take it easy for the rest of the evening. Don’t go rushing to the gym or to pick up the kids. Take some time to yourself, enjoy some herbal tea and if you can manage it, have an early night. The first night’s sleep after a massage is usually the most relaxing so try to keep that chilled-out feeling for as long as possible.
Come back regularly
Don’t let your massage experience be a once off - try to make it a semi-regular appointment, just like you would with your hair or nails. The benefits of regular massage have been proven to increase circulation, relieve tension, reduce stress, relieve anxiety, improve sleep, and promote relaxation throughout the entire body. Take an hour out of your busy month to focus on you and your health and well-being.
